Cinnamon and Ginger

We lost Pancake a couple of weeks ago, due to breast cancer. I was a little surprised that a hamster would be diagnosed with such a thing, but the vet said it is a frequent problem in the critters. Very sad.

Mitchell did not wait long to be asking to get another hamster, and I have to admit that the wee hours were eerily quiet without our nocturnal exerciser running on the wheel. We went to several pet shops over a week, and we were thinking of getting another Russian Dwarf due to what a nice pet Pancake was. When we ran across the "Sunfire" color variety, we were surprised how bright and lovely they were, and these two baby sisters stole our hearts. We took them both!

They were seven weeks old when we got them, now about eight. They're growing really fast, and they keep their cheeks full of seeds, so they look even bigger. They're incredibly active, and it's hard to get photos of them that aren't blurred, especially showing both of them together.

We talked about naming them Biscuit and Crescent, to sort of go with the name Pancake, and because of their coloring. In the end, Mitchell decided he liked the names Cinnamon and Ginger.

Ginger is the slightly lighter one, which you can tell only when they're side by side. We can also tell when we have a hold of Cinnamon-- she bites.

Happy Knitting,
Lisa Kay
